Steps to becoming a GLA Producer
• GLA representative visits ranch to meet producer and talk about American Grassfed Association (AGA)
grassfed standards and Global Animal Welfare (GAP) animal welfare standards.
• Producer and GLA representative will determine if production system is appropriate of WFM sales or other
GLA markets. Typically this is determined by the size of the operation.
• Producer fills out and submits application for AGA and GAP animal welfare audits.
• Once the applications are approved the GAP and AGA audits are scheduled.
• For GLA’s WFM program producers must achieve and maintain a GAP Step-4 rating.
• Once final approval is obtained producers cattle will be scheduled for harvest by GLA.
American Grassfed Associations Grassfed Standards Overview
• Grass and forage shall be the feed source throughout the animal’s life.
• Animal’s may not be fed grain.
• Animals must have continuos access to pasture and never confined to a feedlot.
• Approved supplements may be fed to ensure the animals well being during periods of low forage quality
and severe weather. Not to exceed 1% of lifetime total intake.
• No antibiotics ever.
• No growth hormones fed ever.
• No animal by-producers fed ever.
• No organophosphates or ionophores used.
• Animals must be traceable by written record throughout their lifetime.
